Northwest Florida Candidates

Last Saturday I sent a survey to 51 candidates running for the various offices representing Northwest Florida. I got 12 survey responses and two emails in reply. The two email replies did not complete the survey. Below are the candidate responses to the survey and some survey statistics (which are interesting). I do apologize because I realized too late that questions 6 & 7 were duplicates (the dangers of copy and paste), however it is interesting that some candidates answered the same question differently.

Candidate Survey Data

(These are pdf files and are safe for downloading. You will need Adobe Acrobat reader, which you can download here for free)

Based on these responses and other research, here are my endorsements. I did not endorse all candidates simply because there was not enough information available to me. Some of my endorsements are not without reservations. Governor Scott and Congressman Miller have been disappointing on some issues. Nevertheless, the alternative candidates did not gain my confidence and trust. Feel free to leave your endorsements below; just do not attack an opposing candidate or your response will be rejected. Notwithstanding, stating an incumbent's voting record is not an attack.

I've listed all the candidates I contacted and the candidate's name I've endorsed is in bold. I've also parenthetically put their response status. If they responded, I put the number so you can easily find their response in the Candidate Responses document above.

These endorsements are solely my own and in no way reflect the endorsements of the Northwest Florida Republican Assembly, the Florida Republican Assembly (FRA), or the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA).

Obama the Deal Maker

Great fanfare was made about the recent release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who has been held by the Taliban for several years, in conjunction with the release of what The Weekly Standard is describing as "five of the most dangerous Taliban commanders."

You'll forgive me if I don't share the joy expressed by many at Sgt. Bergdahl's release. I consider Sgt. Bergdahl a traitor. Harsh words? Perhaps, but allow the record to speak for itself.

I was contacted earlier this morning by a dear brother-in-Christ who's son is an Army First Lieutenant. Read carefully his son's words:

"Don't believe any fanciful garbage you read about this deserter we just got from the Taliban. He was an enemy sympathizer that abandoned his men and his post and sought to join the Taliban. We just gave up 5 of the Taliban's top guys so that we could get a traitor back. I was over there when he deserted and we stopped everything in order to find him. The entire country went on lockdown and countless assets were sent to find him. I know that several good men died trying to get him back. He told the Taliban everything they wanted, and then helped shoot their propaganda videos. This guy deserves a court martial. He's a disgrace to the uniform."

I confess that this was news to me, well because the mainstream media would never allow such news that would tarnish their King Obama's lackluster foreign policy and diplomacy record. It's all about the optics (I'll address that in a bit).

After posting to my Facebook page that I had some explosive information on the prisoner exchange, I was sent this link from another soldier testifying that Sgt. Bergdahl is a deserter. While you will not find this information in the US media, the UK Mail Online is reporting that this make-believe hero could indeed be tried for desertion.

If all of this was not enough to raise the hackles on the back of your neck, then get a load of what Debbie Schlussel is reporting:

DISGUSTING: Bowe Bergdahl’s Dad Praises allah, Makes Islamic Declaration, Calls For Release of All Gitmo Terrorists; Did Bergdahl Convert to Islam?

Always remember that Obama is a master of distraction. One of his mentors is Saul Alinsky who wrote this in his book, "Rules for Radicals":

The eighth rule: Keep the pressure on, with different tactics and actions, and utilize all events of the period for your purpose.

Barack Obama is keeping the pressure on while removing it from him. With the VA, IRS, and releasing of tens of thousands of illegal aliens scandals, the fanfare around Sgt. Bergdahl's releases is a different tactic and action for the purpose of distracting the media from his ineptitude.

Severing the Second Amendment

The latest shooting at Fort Hood, Texas has reopened the debate of whether or not service members should be allowed to carry weapons on base. Surprisingly, even some veterans are strongly opposed to such an option. Here is this veteran's two cents in the debate.

  1. Crazy people who want to kill will always find weapons. FACT: if military are allowed to carry arms, then crazy dude on Ft Hood only gets one or two shots off before he has 7-8 bullets pumped into him.
  2. We either have the unalienable right to life, which includes defending one's life, or we do not.
  3. We either have the right to keep and bear arms or we do not.
  4. We are either free citizens or we are not.
It is a national disgrace that those who swear to support and defend the US Constitution are not protected by it just because they are on a military base. If you are going to disallow citizens the right to keep and bear arms in one segment of society just because there is the possibility that a crazy person might go on the rampage, then you must disallow all segments of society.
Why is it when the liberals want to ban our guns when there is a shooting in a theater we staunchly defend our 2nd Amendment Rights, but if it happens on a military base, those same defenders use pretzel logic to defend denying those same rights?
Seems to me liberals and and opponents to arming our service members are using the same defense for denying a citizen's 2nd Amendment rights.

Barry Is No Harry

truman_buck_stopsHere is a famous picture of President Harry S. Truman with a sign on his desk that says, "The Buck Stops Here."

While I would not have agreed with much of President Truman's domestic policies, when it came to foreign policy he was a hawk compared to many of his predecessors.

What you could always admire about "Give "Em Hell Harry" is that he was plain-spoken and intellectually honest. Again, that doesn't mean you would always agree with him, but you could respect him.

Here's a video of Harry Truman in his later years explaining a president's level of responsibility:

In fact, Barack Obama has invoked a revised version of President Truman's famous saying:

The problem is Barry, no one is buying "The Buck Stops With Me" mantra. Just take a look at these highlights from this past week's press conference to the failure of ObamaCare. Please watch the whole video because it is very revelatory:

You are watching a man completely disconnected from reality and suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. When you watch the press conference, there is no way this man is allowing the buck stop to with him. He can say it does, but his mangled explanations were still deflections of responsibility for the complete and unresolvable failure of ObamaCare.

Truman Obama ResizedIn light of this, we have a new picture, call it a revision of Harry Truman, because Barry, you're no Harry. (Hat tip Jason Zoglmann)

The Cupboard Is Not Bare

(Artwork by Jason Zoglmann)

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi recently said that the federal cupboard is bare when asked about cutting deficit spending instead of raising the debt ceiling once again.

Now bless her heart I'm sure Mrs. Pelosi truly believes that because she's never seen a government program that she didn't want to start (if it would buy her votes).

Nor has there ever existed a government program, even if proved to be a failure (which would mean most), that she would be willing to cut.

I once actually had a pleasant conversation with Nancy Pelosi on the phone and so let's just say this blog post is my way of returning her nice call. I want to help the former Speaker of the House and any other legislator who believes the cupboard is bare.

Trust me sister, thar's plenty pork that can be cut.

The good folks at Citizen's Against Government Waste annually publish their Prime Cuts Summary of government programs that could be easily cut from the federal government. Here's a quick rundown of that summary:

(The savings would be over a 5-year period)

Cut $61.76 billion from Department of Agriculture subsidies

Cut $785 million from the Commerce Department by eliminating the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership

Cut $18 billion from the Department of Defense in unnecessary and unrequested spending

Cut $2.3 billion from the Department of Energy by privatizing two federal utilities programs

Cut $24 billion from Health and Human Services Department by eliminating 50% of improper Medicare payments

Cut $18 billion from Department of Housing and Urban Development by eliminating the Community Development Block Grants and Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (NeighborWorks America)

Cut over $2 billion from the Interior Department by suspending federal land purchases and eliminating Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State Recreation Grants

Cut nearly $7 billion from the Justice Department in community grants

Cut $6.45 billion from the Labor Department by repealing the Davis-Bacon Act and ending OSHA's Harwood Grants

Cut $7.85 billion from the Transportation Department by ending subsidies for Amtrak and ending the Essential Air Service (EAS). EAS is a prime example of a temporary program that has morphed into a monster.

Save $730 million by having the Treasury Department switching from paper $1 bills to coins.

Further cuts could be realized by eliminating the following worthless programs:

AmeriCorps - $3.5 billion; Legal Services Corporation - $2.1 billion; National Endowment for the Humanities and National Endowment for the Arts - $1.7 billion

And my favorite cut of all! We could save $9.6 billion over the next five years just by reducing by 25% our support to the United Nations, which means we would save $38.4 billion if we just stop supporting it altogether and throw them out of our country.

So you see Dear Nancy, while you may not think cutting $165 billion in pork is not much, it would at least be a good faith act on the part of Congress.

Then there's the repeal of ObamaCare...

Hello Mastercard?

Yes, this is Mr. Jeffers. I'd like to raise my debt limit to $10,000.

What's that?

Oh no ma'am, I am in no way increasing my debt or my liability and I'm surely not going to be a spendthrift.

No ma'am, this will allow me to pay the bills that I've racked up. I'm just preserving the full faith and credit of David Jeffers.

Excuse me?! I beg to differ ma'am, I'm not crazy. I just following the Obamanomics model.

Hello? Hello? She hung up on me.

I guess she needs to watch the video at the link below:

Obama Obfuscations

obamanocchioHere are my brief thoughts on Barack Obama's speech on Syria on the eve of 9/11.

Obama said:

In that time, America's worked with allies to provide humanitarian support, to help  the moderate opposition, and to shape a political settlement, but I have resisted calls for military action because we cannot resolve someone else's civil war through force, particularly after a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Obama, when it comes to the Syrian rebels, they are anything but moderate. And when it comes to fighting someone else's civil war, you did so in Libya.

Speaking on chemical weapons, Mr. Obama said:

Because these weapons can kill on a mass scale, with no distinction between soldier and infant, the civilized world has spent a century working to ban them.

My comment to that is, killing babies with gas is unacceptable, however abortion, even with the baby out of the womb, is just fine with you.

Twice he called America a democracy, even describing us as "the world's oldest constitutional democracy." To be exact Mr. Constitutional Professor, we are a constitutional republic.

Mr. Obama later said:

I believe that America acts more effectively abroad when we stand together .

You didn’t believe that when Bush was President and we were at war.

He then patronizes Americans with this statement:

It's no wonder then that you're asking hard questions.

Mr. Obama, these are not hard questions. They are logical and legitimate. Okay, for you that makes them hard. Carry on!

Then speaking on pinpricks, Mr. Obama said:

Let me make something clear: The United States military doesn't do pinpricks. Even a limited strike will send a message to Assad that no other nation can deliver.

Mr. Obama, I can think of at least 8 NATO allies, plus France, who are capable of doing limited and targeted strikes.

Next was this doozy of a statement:

We learned from Iraq that doing so makes us responsible for all that comes next.

Not to mention Egypt and Libya, which you didn’t mention.

Next comes his plea for bipartisanship:

To my friends on the left, I ask you to reconcile your belief in freedom and dignity for all people with those images of children writhing in pain and going still on a cold hospital floor, for sometimes resolutions and statements of condemnation are simply not enough.

I don’t think they really care about that. Remember they support full and unfettered abortion.

And just one last appeal for the children:

America is not the world's policeman. Terrible things happen across the globe, and it is beyond our means to right every wrong, but when with modest effort and risk we can stop children from being gassed to death and thereby make our own children safer over the long run, I believe we should act.

The most dangerous place in America for our children is in its mother’s womb. Syria is the least of their problems.

So while I did not watch Mr. Obama's speech (I'm 0 for how many ever speeches he's given), I did read it and was nonplussed and underwhelmed by his, or his speechwriters', words.

Done Deal

let'smakeadealSo are you surprised that most of the GOP Establishment is coming out in favor backing Barack Obama's senseless attack on Syria? My only surprise is how long it took me to figure out what actually went down.

I was reading my Twitter feed for the latest tweets on Syria and I found it interesting that I didn't see any Establipublicans commenting on the hottest news item of the day. So I went to the GOP's Twitter feed and lo and behold there's not been one tweet about Syria in a week. I found this strange and tweeted as much:

My tweet was replied to by Donnie Parker III that to be fair Barack Obama had not tweeted about it either. I told him that was because Obama was using congressional approval to attack Syria as a wedge issue within the GOP. Donnie replied it was also one with the Democrats. I made a joke that I didn't care that it was for the Democrats.

But then that got me curious. What were the Democrats saying on their Twitter page about Syria? Lo and behold the Democrats haven't tweeted about Syria. Hmm? Something smells rotten in D.C. No tweets on Syria by Barack Obama, the Democrats, or the Establipublicans.

And then it hit me. It's a done deal; it's been a done deal since last week. In fact you're already hearing the Establipublicans parroting the same talking points as Obama and the Democrats.

Once again Americans are being played the fool. We're going to attack a sovereign nation on sketchy intelligence, of which some reports say the rebels actually gassed the civilians to draw America into attack Syrian President Bashar Assad.

What could possibly go wrong? What's that? Egypt and Libya? Oh, but those are not the same thing.

This week's The Truth Newsletter will go into more detail as to why attacking Syria is a bad idea. Be sure to sign up today to receive your copy when its released.

Hasan’s Hustle

imageSo once again the Pentagon's Perfumed Princes have been played by a lowly Army major. Relying on the political correctness that has turned our generals into military eunuchs, Nidal Hasan masterfully used our nation's moral relativism to his advantage.

FACT: Hasan's murder spree was an act of terror, but the military to this day calls it work place violence.

FACT: Hasan's radical views were well known by the Army and yet they allowed him to continue as though he was your typical Army officer.

FACT: Hasan demanded to defend himself and to have the Army provide him a defense team, which the Army dutifully paid for Edith tax payer dollars. Among those tax payers are the surviving family members of Hasan's murder spree.

Hasan never had any intention of defending himself. During the trial Hasan admitted that he was the shooter and that he was justified in killing innocent soldiers because he was an Islamic holy warrior.

So when the time came for Hasan to begin his defense, it took him three words to do so: "The defense rests."

Some four years after an obvious attack of terrorism at Foot Hood, Texas the only question left is will the military judge give Hasan his wish and grant him the satanic martyrdom he assumes awaits him.

The only thing awaiting Hasan is hell.
