My Political Opus

The Donald or Hillary

The Donald or Hillary

I have been involved in politics for 40 years, some of those years less than others. I have been intimately involved in the last four election cycles, including our current one. The more I get involved, the more I feel the need for spiritual cleansing and healing.

Ronald Reagan’s whimsical quote about politics never seemed truer than today:

It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.”

As my pastor says, “We are living in spiritual Babylon.” The binary reality before us is Hillary Clinton or one of her supporters, Donald J. Trump. Of course we have other choices, third party or write-in, but the reality is either Clinton or Trump will be our next president.

Voting Your Conscience

Allow me to take a side note for a moment: for those of you who maddeningly and insultingly say not voting for Trump is the same as voting for Hillary, I say: GROW UP! The same pretzel logic could say, not voting for Hillary is the same as voting for Trump.

The right to vote is the most sacred thing we do as American citizens. I will never attack or impugn a citizen for making a choice of conscience, particularly one based on biblical principles.

If you are wont to attack such people, then take leave of me now.

I will not suffer your type any longer.

Rule of Law

The watershed moment for me in this election cycle came on July 5th, one day after America celebrated its 240th birthday. FBI Director James Comey told Congress, and as an extension, America, that Hillary Clinton is above the law. Director Comey told America that law and order, the foundation of a constitutional republic, no longer matters.

And the Democrat Party wholeheartedly agreed.

The Democrat Party is the party of lawlessness and disorder. Understand well James Madison’s words about the purpose of government:

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.”

Clearly men are not angels. Law and order must be kept if our nation is to survive. Rampant illegal immigration, race-baiting profiteering, and assassination of our police officers are the latest examples of the lawlessness spreading across America.

Religious Liberty

Additionally, religious liberty is openly attacked. The Democrat Party, led by Hillary Clinton’s open hatred of evangelical Christians, have painted a bullseye on the First Amendment.

This past May, Congressmen Joe Kennedy III (D-Mass) and Bobby Scott (D-Va) introduced the “Do No Harm Act,” which would amend the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) that protects religious liberty. Democrats have in their crosshairs Christian businesses that refuse to provide services that are contrary to their biblical beliefs.

Democrats were furious with the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor who refused to provide birth control and abortions under ObamaCare.

During their 2012 national convention, the Democrat Party tried to remove God from their party platform. Its corporate godlessness and lack of patriotism was on full display at this year’s convention.

Know this, if you do not clearly see that the Democrat Party is officially opposed to the open and free exercise of the Christian faith, then friend you need the scales removed from your eyes.

Protecting Life

Democrats approve of and finance (sadly with the aid of Congressional Republicans) the indiscriminate murder of unborn children. They even approve of the barbaric act of partial-birth abortion. Any candidate or political party that denies the unalienable right to life of unborn Americans is not only unworthy of our vote, but also is unfit to serve in any capacity.

Abortion for any reason, including rape, incest, and the supposed life of the mother, is still murder. Humans do not get to choose who lives or dies. God is the giver and taker of life, and He alone chooses who lives or dies.

The Democrat Party officially opposes this biblical truth. On May 19, 2016 at the Women Deliver 2016 conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, Mrs. Clinton pushed “for Unlimited Abortions Up to Birth on a Global Scale.”

The Republican Party officially supports life; however, at times they do not govern as such. Nevertheless, the GOP at least has a platform to which Christians can hold Republicans accountable. The Democrats have no such accountability.

Revival before Reversal

I have been accused of being a purist, as though we are not to endeavor to seek Christ’s purity. Notwithstanding, I have tried to bring a reversal of America’s woes before revival has occurred.

The reason America is in its current state is because the church has allowed it, particularly pastors. Heed well the words of the Reverend Charles G. Finney from The Decay of Conscience, written over 140 years ago:

“Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.”

Our churches have zero effect on American society. Other than Franklin Graham and Dr. James Dobson, name one Christian leader called on to comment on cultural issues. Many pastors hide under their pulpits out of fear of losing their idolatrous tax-exempt status. If the church were truly concerned about being the salt and light Jesus commands us to be, we would reject the Internal Revenue Service’s unconstitutional threat.

One thing Mr. Trump said on the campaign trail and in his acceptance speech, is that he is going to take away the threat of the Johnson Amendment of 1954. In fact, Mr. Trump has commissioned former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich to draft legislation for the repeal of this unconstitutional legislation. This particularly got my attention because it will also take away the convenient excuse of the cowardly clergy who refuse to fulfill their biblical calling as pastor.

Revival will come to America when the church is revived. This will only come when the pulpits across the country stop fulfilling the Apostle Paul’s prophecy:

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Buying Time

I do not know how much time we have left before Christ returns or America is lost, I only know that I am to be about the business of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray for a revival such as the depraved city of Nineveh experienced after a reluctant Jonah preached to them.

Would to God America would experience a 20-year revival like Nineveh!

Nevertheless, I must be about my Father’s work. There are other candidates that are far better than the binary choices of the Republican and Democrat nominees. My dear brother-in-Christ Tom Hoefling is such a man. You can read all about him and his party here.

Brother Tom will be grieved by what I am writing; others will be too. I too am grieved by where I find myself. However, I see that our nation is not ready for a man such as Tom.

Revival must come before reversal. That being said, if you reject the binary choice, then I encourage you to support Tom.

However, the reality is either Hillary Clinton or Donald J. Trump is going to be president. Mrs. Clinton is the obvious choice for the Democrat Party. She fully represents its depraved state.

Mr. Trump is the Republican Party’s Frankenstein. I’m not saying Mr. Trump is a monster; I am saying the GOP’s purposeful maneuverings to defeat any constitutional, Christian conservative has in the past nominated Mitt McDole and now Donald Trump.

The choices before us are harsh. Vote our conscience and most likely watch Hillary Clinton become the 45th president whose goal is to destroy the last vestiges of American traditionalism. If you’ve not yet seen Dinesh D’Souza’s latest masterpiece, “Hillary’s America,” I exhort you to do so immediately. It will shake you to your core.

Or we can hold our noise and vote for clearly the most immoral person the Republican Party has ever nominated. Mr. Trump has spoken in many ways and said many things we want to hear and hope to see come to fruition. We have no guarantee that he will fulfill his promises.

We do have the guarantee that Hillary Clinton will be a third Obama term. Some say that is okay because if Republicans can keep control of both houses of Congress, then we can stop her.

How did that work out with Barack Obama? My good friend Mark Levin has rightly described Congress as the Bank of Obama.

This is why voting in this election, up and down the ballot is vital. If your incumbent US Representative and/or Senator voted to support Barack Obama’s destructive agenda, then he or she needs to be fired.

If you do not want to see Hillary Clinton as our next president, the only real choice before us is to vote for Donald J. Trump. Conservative icon Richard Viguerie put it best in one of his articles at ConservativeHQ.com:

Friends, this is now a binary choice: Trump and Pence vs. Hillary Clinton.  In this battle there is only the victory or defeat of constitutional liberty and the rule of law. In this battle there is no third option, there is no compromise, there is no sitting out the election. I’m all in for Trump and Pence and I urge you to join me and them in making America great again.”

I’m not as interested in making America great again as I am making it as holy as possible and revering God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

With Hillary Clinton that goal will be at best an uphill battle if not a guarantee for failure.

With Donald Trump, we have a glimmer of hope.

Which is why I am reluctantly and sadly will cast my vote for Mr. Trump in November.

Overcome your temptation to judge me.

The Lord Jesus Christ is my judge and I will face Him one day for all my words and actions.

So no matter your thoughts, they will have no bearing on my decision.

You have already been consulted if I sought your counsel.

Finally, let us step away from the vicious and vitriolic attacks we’ve seen this election cycle and allow each of us to cast our ballots as our consciences allow us.

After the confetti is gone…

...what now? What do we do when the reality of our choices settle in?

This week we will have to endure the lies and hypocrisy of the Left and its lapdog media.

But how do we make sound judgments when it comes to voting for our elected representatives?

We tackle this subject in the current The Truth Newsletter.

My Florida Primary Picks

NOTE: A special thanks and hat tip to Steve Marusich for his research and insights to many of our local candidates.

I know some of you here in the Florida Panhandle are chomping at the bit to do your early voting, but I will not be casting my vote until August 14th so I can continue researching the candidates.

If you are not in a hurry I would advise you of the same. Voter turnout will no doubt be low so the lines will be short if at all.

However, if I were to vote tomorrow, here is where I'm leaning. Keep in mind that I vote in the Republican Primary in Precinct 34 of Santa Rosa County:

US Senate -- Dave Weldon

Public Defender -- Bruce Miller

State Rep District 3 -- Jayer Williamson

Clerk of Court -- Donny "Don" Spencer

Sheriff -- Wendell Hall

Superintendent of Schools -- After further review, I wholeheartedly endorse Dr. George McCormick.

Supervisor of Elections -- Tappie Villane. Sorry Buck Lee, but you've been on the taxpayer dime for far too long. Plus and more importantly I've worked with Tappie before and she is the consummate professional.

Board of County Commissioners District 1 -- Jim Williamson. Jim is the incumbent and father of Jayer. Jim is not taking his incumbency for granted and his working hard for his votes. He visited the house and very humbly asked for my vote. Plus the other two were kinda late entries which gives me reason to doubt the preparation and perseverance.

Board of County Commissioners District 3 -- this is my anti-incumbent vote (along with voting against Buck Lee) and plus J. Ed Carson is impressive. At least one new commissioner on the board of Ed's caliber will shake things up a bit.

Board of County Commissioners District 5 -- I'm voting for the incumbent Lane Lynchard who I believe to be a good and honorable man. This will be his second term.

Circuit Judge, 1st Judicial Circuit Group 15 -- Terry Ketchel

School Board District 2 -- Joseph Pool. Sorry Mr. Winkles, 20 years on the school board is long enough.

School Board District 4 -- Jenny Granse

Republican Party State Committeman -- Uriah Matthews

Non-binding referendum -- Yes

Why An Evangelical Can Support Newt

Right before the New Year I endorsed Newt Gingrich for President. You can see the video below to hear my reasoning.

Dave Jeffers Endorses Newt

Two weeks before my endorsement and after the culmination of a year of God working on my heart, I published a newsletter about how to critically think through voting for Newt. Below is the newsletter I'm providing for free that is usually only available to my subscribers, but I think it is important to get to as many people as possible.

The Truth Newsletter, Vol. I, Is. 19

Last night we had a townhall meeting at my house and I taught our crowd how to critically think through the political process when picking a candidate.

If any of you might be interested in attending a webinar on how to do this, please let me know.
